Salvatori takes home awards for Taula, Neighbors and Lost Stones at the 2021 ADA

Salvatori wins at the 2021 Archiproducts Design Awards

Great lighting, a stunning setting and leading names from the world of design gathered together in Milan. This was the scene of the 2021 Archiproducts Design Awards held at the end of November, and it was an evening full of emotion and, of course, outstanding design.

We are enormously proud to have been a part of what was, for us, a particularly special edition as three Salvatori products scooped awards. Neighbors, Stephen Burks’ celebration of diversity won in the Décor category, the timeless fascination of our Lost Stones texture by Piero Lissoni was awarded in the Finishes segment and the extraordinary play of lightness in Patricia Urquiola’s Taula table picked up the plaudits in the Furniture category.

Before we take a look at the three winning products in more detail, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Archiproducts not only for recognising our own designs, but also for their commitment year after year to putting the spotlight on wonderful objects of design in general.

Salvatori’s winning products at ADA 2021

The Taula dining table is a masterpiece of engineering and design. At a glance what strikes you is its contradictory nature with its solid structure, inspired by the imposing monoliths of Menorca and Mallorca from which it takes its name, at odds with the sense of lightness it transmits. Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola pushes natural stone and technical prowess to new levels with a table top that appears to hover tantalisingly above its four legs and is clearly designed with thought for the comfort of those who will eventually sit around it.

Conceptually different but no less fascinating is Neighbors, a pair of wall mirrors that literally and figuratively reflect the diversity of our world. Designer Stephen Burks selected a vibrant palette of stones such as Nero Marquinia, Rosso Francia, Giallo Siena, Verde Guatemala and Bianco Carrara for his eclectic and striking compositions that express the multicultural approach and pluralistic and inclusive vision of design that guides his work.

Rounding out the trio of winning products at ADA 2021 we have the Lost Stones texture in Pietra d’Avola. Delicate seams of golden resin undulate across the rich dark brown surface in a homage to the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi. In the same way the technique has given precious new life to broken pottery and porcelain throughout the centuries to create unique objects of beauty, Lost Stones does the same. With each order created specifically for the wall it will grace, it can be considered the interior design equivalent of a bespoke garment. The unerring eye of Piero Lissoni once again delivers a truly original and elegant aesthetic.

The awards ceremony

The event took place on 25 November in the Tortona district, always a focal area during Milan Design Week, and once again there was a palpable buzz as old friends and peers from the world of design caught up. The venue was the Megawatt Court hangar, with striking art video projectsions creating a spectacular atmosphere.

Our CEO, Gabriele Salvatori, describes his thoughts on the evening: “That moment when we entered was really quite emotional. Seeing our name on all the screens brought a tangible dimension to the recognition our products were receiving. A success for the brand, for the designers but most of all, for all our people who worked on the products.

“It was a fantastic evening, the chance to catch up and exchange ideas. To interact with other people who, like you, pour all their passion into their creations.

Receiving these awards is not just incredibly satisfying on a personal level, but a tribute to the entire company and to the team.”

About the Archiproducts Design Awards

2021 was the sixth edition of the Archiproducts Design Awards, which were instituted in 2016 by the world-renowned portal to celebrate global design excellence.

Each year, a jury made up of architects, journalists, photographers and creative directors from around the world look through hundreds of products, evaluating them and whittling them down to first a long list and then a short list before the winners are announced live at the annual awards ceremony. This year there were 14 categories, including one that recognises sustainability, in a move to encourage greater care for resources and the environment.

Our involvement didn’t stop with the awards we won. Together with Michael Anastassiades, we created the trophy that was presented to the winning designers. Inspired by the ADA logo, it is a bold hexagonal monolith in Nero Marquinia black marble with striking grey and white veins, sharply cut to bring out the dynamism of the stone and create a miniature piece of design.

We look forward to the 2022 edition of the awards and once again hope to be a part of this fantastic initiative that is so important to the design sector.
