The Holy City
We speak to architect Erez Hayat about the interiors he designed for a beautiful penthouse apartment in Jerusalem
Can you tell us in your own words a little about the project. What was the inspiration behind the design?
This is a duplex penthouse in Jerusalem, near the City of David, by the walls of the Holy City.
It was important to me to enhance the strategic location of the house, in the holiest place in the world.
This is a penthouse that feels like a home from every corner, the materials, textures and motive were carefully selected and designed with reference to the sacred geographical location of the project.
It features a lot of stone, brass, wood, warm neutral colours, monochromatic décors and definitely a lot of luxury.
A project rich in materials that talk and correspond with each other. A project in which every detail was carefully planned in harmony, where each space is more surprising than the previous one.
Why did you choose Salvatori?
I chose the brand because of the innovative way they use, cut and process natural stone.
The abundance of stone adds a lot of grace to the home, providing a connection with nature and adding another dimension to the space.
What particularly appeals about the Salvatori products you chose?
I chose several stones. The leading one is Pietra d’Avola in Tratti, which appears in many spaces in the house. It reminds me of the project and its unique location in Jerusalem.
It is a stone with many possibilities and can be combined with aluminum and other materials.
Moreover, the stone comes with fine veins that give the space a unique three-dimensionality.
How did you find the experience of working with Salvatori?
I received personal and warm treatmenttreatment and the input of a professional team that accompanied me and helped me choose the right stones that would blend harmoniously with the space and make it pop.
Is the client happy with the end result?
The customer is extremely satisfied. For him, the house gives him a sense of belonging and security.
It is a house is a home for him and a house that is a real treat, providing a lot of warmth and comfort. For him, the house is above and beyond expectations.
And, a final question that is a little off-topic, but are you happy to share your 10 favourite songs that you listen to when you’re designing or looking for inspiration?
Music is an integral part of my life, From the age of 4, I have DJed and created music with beats and sounds that inspire me and help me creatively with my muse to design.
I would love to share with a DJ set from a DJ that I really like and always listen to when I’m working and looking for inspiration: https://youtu.be/SwLqR3d0n2k
