Lake Garda Villa
Architectural firm Autem chose Salvatori stone for this charming villa in Bardolino on the shores of Lake Garda. We spoke to the team behind the design to discover how a little more about the entire project.
Can you tell us in your own words a little about the project. What was the inspiration behind the design?
The south-west face of the house and its large windows mean there is incredible light inside so that the sky and lake dominate the breathtaking view that our client enjoys in every room of the house. The design is all about the natural light, via the shapes you find in the sky. The rounded details evoke the sun’s arc. The glass, neutral colours and deliberately low furniture leave space for the colours of nature that make their way into the house from outside, colours that change every day.
What particularly appeals about the Salvatori products you chose?
The house faces from south to north-west. To complete the natural light’s cycle we’re missing the east and so we needed something to represent that, and to represent the rising sun.
Silk Georgette® is a limestone with a distinctive horizontal vein pattern. The stone comes from the Far East and has an ivory background with delicate brownish and beige veining that is elegant and has a warmth and colour that is reminiscent of the stony shores of the lake.
Why did you choose Salvatori?
With Salvatori, we could choose products that match the furnishings. The three-dimensional effect of the Plissé and Spaghetti textures allowed us to complete our story of light.
How did you find the experience of working with Salvatori?
We very much appreciated the bespoke aspect which meant we could offer our client something even more unique and special.
Is the client happy with the end result?
The clients were on board with the product from their first showroom visit. They were so impatient to see how it looked in their own home that they dropped in at different phases of the project. They’re very happy with their choice.
Now, a final question that is a little off-topic, but at Salvatori, we believe that there’s a special link between music and design. Are you happy to share your 10 favourite songs that you listen to when you’re designing or looking for inspiration?
As a team, for inspiration we listen to different music every day, and so we would like to associate an album with the design: Sound & Color by Alabama Shakes.
